Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Electric and Gas Operations Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     The Supervisor of Gas Operations is responsible for the efficient scheduling and supervision of natural gas utility, service crews and contract crews engaged in the construction and maintenance of the natural gas and distribution systems.

    About this job:

    • Demonstrate leadership consistent with NorthWestern Energy's code, values, policies, processes and controls
    • Utilize management practices to maintain employee engagement and productivity
    • Effectively manage budgets, ensuring proper cost controls
    • Lead special projects and utilize change and project management techniques as required
    • Supervise natural gas utility crews, contract crews, and service crews in the service territory
    • Supports division small town personnel
    • Ensure work is completed in compliance with all appropriate laws, rules, and regulations
    • Ensure compliance with NorthWestern Energy standards and applicable Federal and State codes and regulations including the requirements for natural gas system operations as set forth in 49CFR Part192
    • Perform PSC/DOT audits of natural gas operations
    • Perform OQ verifications for natural gas journeymen, apprentices, and seasonal natural gas employees
    • Provide instruction in and ensure compliance with proper work methods, construction standards, and safety procedures
    • Schedule daily and long-term crew assignments to ensure production goals are met
    • Brief direct reports and develop service packets as needed
    • Participate in the development of annual budgets
    • Develop and participate in all aspects of hiring, performance appraisals, safety accountability checks, and process claims reports
    • Work on-call rotation schedules, evenings, weekends, and in response to acute service needs
    • Work effectively with customers and the general public
    • Develop and maintain a strong interpersonal relationships with peers, co-workers, and other internal customers
    • Effective computer skills
    • Perform constant sitting, frequent standing and walking, occasional lifting up to 35 pounds

    Criteria for hiring Entry to Mid-Level

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Post-Secondary education/degree or experienced certified journeyman natural gas employee preferred
    • Working knowledge in natural gas utility (distribution, and gate stations) business and construction methodologies
    • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft office and ability to learn and effectively use proprietary software
    • Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
    • First Aid/CPR Certification
    • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
    • Strong business acumen desired

    Criteria for hiring and/or promotion to Upper Level

    • All of the above plus;
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or;
    • Bachelor's degree in a Non-Engineering field or Journeyman lineman qualifications with relevant work experience and knowledge may be considered subject to review and approval by upper management
    • Strong leadership skills including interpersonal communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a department and department staff members
