    Description
    The Department of Corrections (DOC) mission is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non- criminal behavior.

    Northpoint Training Center (NTC) is seeking skilled applicants for an Electronic Technician II on site at the institution. This position performs technical work at NTC in the field of electronics and/or electronic component systems.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
    • Perform technical work in the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic component systems.
    • Install new CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) equipment and cameras.
    • Perform ongoing maintenance on existing cameras within the network. Conduct tests to evaluate performance.
    • Install new Category 5 & Category 6 Ethernet Cables and optic cabling.
    • Supervise inmate workers on work orders ensuring jobs are completed correctly and safely inside policy and procedures.
    • Maintain inventories of tools and equipment.
    • Request parts and materials for maintenance through supervisor for approval.
    • Communicate with supervisor and staff on the progress of installations, repairs and maintenance.
    • Maintain technical records and reports and attend training courses.
    Minimum Requirements
    EDUCATION: High school graduate.

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of technical experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.

    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Technical training in electronics or a related field will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional technical experience will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
    Working Conditions
    Work is typically performed in an office and/or electronic shop.
    Probationary Period
    This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
