Arriba Las Vegas Worker Center is a grassroots organization that unites day laborers, domestic workers, and other low-wage and migrant workers to defend their rights, fight for dignity, and win justice for all. Our mission is to inform, empower, and organize immigrant worker-led movements for dignity, inclusion, and justice for all.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Arriba Las Vegas Worker Center seeks a mission-driven legal assistant to support legal and navigation services at Arriba Las Vegas. The legal assistant will support legal clinics, pro-se clinics, and individual appointments, including outreach, scheduling, and logistical support.

Workers without permanent immigration status may be reticent to speak up for their workplace rights because of fear of immigration-based retaliation. Deferred action protection for workers impacted by labor agency investigations helps close this gap by providing temporary immigration protections and work authorization. The legal assistant will help to conduct outreach and interview workers, prepare applications, and assist with case management.

We are especially looking for a movement-oriented candidate who has experience working with Spanish-speaking or immigrant workers, whether in the immigration or labor context. Familiarity with USCIS and the filing of affirmative applications and/or labor agency complaints is a significant plus.

The legal assistant will be responsible for filing, scanning, and assisting with updating client files and digital files and will provide administrative assistance to staff attorney(s). The legal assistant will also assist with data analysis in support of case-related activities.

This position is full-time hourly with benefits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure the office is running smoothly at all times
• Track deadlines to ensure legal documents are filed in a timely manner
• Represent the organization with professionalism and integrity
• Maintain strict confidentiality of organizational and client information
• Communicate with clients in person, over the phone, and via email
• Draft, proofread, and file or send legal documents, such as letters of intent and applications to USCIS.
• Perform administrative duties, such as maintaining lawyers’ calendars, scheduling appointments, making photocopies, and compiling complex documentation
• Create and maintain case files, including producing and editing transcripts
• Screen, direct, and prioritize incoming calls and emails to lawyers
• Perform legal and background research when requested

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree or certification as a legal assistant and/or DOJ-accredited representative. Candidates in the process of obtaining accreditation may be considered.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing the rights of low-income workers, people of color, and/or immigrant communities.
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong organizational skills
• Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
• Experience working in a fast-paced legal environment
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work with a diverse group of mission-driven organizers and staff with a range of law knowledge, experience, and expertise.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
• Preference for a candidate with past experience in immigrant and worker organizing

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This is a full-time hourly position with a scale commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision, and paid time off.
