Communicates details of situation and location. Additionally, Emergency Dispatcher enters unit response details into a database. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. Job Summary:
Operates the company communications center. Responsible for seeing that all requests
for ambulance service are fulfilled in an orderly and timely fashion.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Receives all requests for ambulance service and fulfills them as soon as possible.
2. Answers all incoming telephone calls and directs them to the appropriate person.
3. Coordinates the movement of company ambulances.
4. Maintains constant communications with ambulance crews.
5. Obtains exact location, nature of problem, phone number and other pertinent
information from those requesting an ambulance.
6. Requests assistance from other agencies as needed.
7. In the event of communications failure: notifies appropriate agency that repairs
are needed; assures that company communications are maintained.
8. Schedules non-emergency calls so as not to interfere with ability to provide
emergency services.
9. Coordinates Rockford Ambulance radio traffic.
10. Monitors activities of other public service agencies.
11. Provides assistance to ambulance crews as needed.
12. Documents dispatch activity as required.
13. Records all dispatch activity on dispatch computer accurately.
14. Provides for the safety of responding units and other emergency responders by
sharing all pertinent information gathered.
15. Directs units to response locations utilizing maps, etc.
