Job SummaryFosters, develops, and maintains an environment that supports a culture of engagement based on Brookdale’s Engagement Philosophy. Utilizes a person-centered approach starting with positive perceptions of aging, while building relationships and connections amongst and across communities.
Essential Functions
- Develops and maintains an innovative, continuous culture of engagement reflective of adults by leveraging engagement’s fundamental concepts and points of difference.
- Cultivates person-centered engagement that is meaningful to the individual by learning and understanding each resident’s unique interests and desires. Incorporates elements of spontaneity daily, as appropriate, while continuously looking for opportunities to bridge social connections and create friendships among residents.
- Encourages and promotes purposeful opportunities for residents, both internally and externally. Networks with outside community resources to enrich the variety of opportunities available to residents.
- Implements resident experience and welcome protocols.
- Provides subject matter expertise to the leadership team regarding engagement and quality of life for residents and associates. Promotes a culture of interdepartmental cooperation to lead to intentional prospect-resident connections.
- Supports community operations by working to achieve the highest level of resident experience and satisfaction.
- Collaborates with community leadership team to plan, coordinate, and execute special events at the community including, but not limited to, holiday, family, Friends for Life, educational, and other marketing events.
- Plans and schedules meaningful opportunities for resident engagement outside the community, which may include driving a community vehicle.
- Develops a monthly calendar, in partnership with residents, based on residents’ shared interests. Ensures Company initiatives and specialty programs are scheduled and executed as scheduled.
- Understands and supports the Brookdale Excellence Standards Tool (BEST) and appropriate state, federal, and other regulations related to resident programming and engagement.
- Maintains and adheres to department monthly budget and expense control while managing appropriate community vendor contracts.
- Where applicable, may assist with hiring and training part-time resident engagement associate(s) and may manage volunteer program and fitness center.
- Represents department in all community meetings, including but not limited to, Collaborative Care, All Associate, Leadership Team, and Care Planning. Participates in regional calls and trainings as required.
- Curates social media content to align with Brookdale’s culture, brand, and social media guidance in accordance with Brookdale standards.
- Where applicable, facilitates planning, collaboration, and partnership between service lines to optimize a culture of engagement reaching all areas of the campus.

Education and ExperienceA minimum of 1 year of direct experience with adults, coordinating, planning, and executing programs is required. High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required. Bachelor’s Degree in therapeutic recreation, gerontology, health care, education, or other related field preferred. Leadership experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and other Special RequirementsMust have a valid driver’s license and may be required to obtain a commercial driver’s license based on the needs of the community.

Knowledge and SkillsHas an intermediate skill related to programming and can follow written or verbal instructions. Demonstrates technical skills to complete repetitive and well-defined duties. Has an intermediate knowledge of the organization in order to answer straight-forward questions. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Has computer software skills including Microsoft Excel and Word and is comfortable using various social media platforms. Maintains positive and professional demeanor towards residents, visitors, families, and coworkers. Has excellent oral and written communication and teaching skills.
