The McDonald Center for Student Well-Being is the health promotion department at the University of Notre Dame charged with implementing population-based health and wellness initiatives for the student population. The McDonald Center is seeking an applicant who is passionate about student well-being, empowering student leaders, and committed to a positive teamwork culture. Working within a public health framework, the Program Coordinator for Student Well-Being Leadership and Engagement will work with a dynamic team of professionals to grow a strong peer-driven well-being culture as a means of embedding well-being into every aspect of student life. This is a new position and reports directly to the Director of the McDonald Center for Student Well-Being located within the Health and Wellness Unit in the Division of Student Affairs. This is a full-time, 12-month position and will require some weekend and evening hours.
Primary Duties
The Program Coordinator for Student Well-Being Leadership and Engagement is responsible for training and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students to become role models, leaders, educators in well-being and well-being improvement scientists/public health champions for their peers. The Program Coordinator trains student leaders and peer educators on well-being topics, program development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation, and supervises and coordinates student-led initiatives. Additionally, the Program Coordinator serves as chair of the Health and Wellness Unit Student Advisory Council.
Student Leadership Development
- Recruit and coordinate hiring for peer educators and student employees
- Train, mentor, and supervise peer educators and student employees in evidence-informed health promotion strategies and bystander interventions
- Evaluate peer engagement strategy and utilize data to continuously improve its effectiveness
Student Outreach Coordination
- Organize, coordinate, and schedule student-led well-being outreach initiatives
- Manage budget for peer outreach initiatives and training
- Manage mini-grant program
- Analyze and report peer outreach data
Student Advisory Council (SAC)
- Market, recruit, organize, chair and evaluate the Health and Wellness Unit SAC
- Regularly report advisory activities, recommendations, and outcomes to the Health and Wellness Unit leadership team.
Other Opportunities
- Design and implement initiatives based on department strategic plan
- Provide presentations and workshops to the campus community
- Serve on campus committees
- Advise student clubs and organizations
- Co-develop population-wide campaigns and interventions
- Collaborating with other departments and student group
- Attend and present at regional and national trainings and conferences
- Serve as resource coordinator for Title IX
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum bachelors degree in Health Promotion, Health Science, Public Health, Psychology, Student Development, or other related fields.
- Experience working with peer educators or significant experience as a peer educator.
- Knowledge and understanding of student development.
- Knowledge of and experience with public health framework.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and interpersonal skills for empowering, motivating, and developing students.
- Demonstrate high standards of integrity, and motivation to incorporate best practices into organizational culture.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
- Demonstrate compassionate teamwork attitude and skills.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills (written and verbal) that contribute to building and sustaining effective collaboration with university and community partners.
- Ability to deliver compelling and effective presentations and educational experiences for a variety of audiences.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Ability to assess, research, analyze, and evaluate initiatives.
- Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, social media platforms, graphic design.
- Commitment to lifelong learning in this quickly evolving field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant Masters Degree
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or on track to attain CHES
- Mindfulness education skills
- Stress management expertise
- Knowledge of culture and behavior change
- Grant writing experience
- Demonstrate creativity, innovation, and the ability to "think outside the box."
