    Position Summary:
    The Director of Operations leads, manages, directs and monitors overall daily operations of our 12 clubs with primary concern for safety, high quality programming, driving optimal club experience and service delivery/outcomes for youth ages 6 to 18 that enables a member to grow and develop into a responsible adult. This position is responsible for employee management, community relationships, financial well-being, and facility management of the locations. This position must work closely and effectively with the Quality & Implementation team, Development, and the Scholarship team to ensure the success of Club and organizational programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create a club environment that facilitates implementation and achievement of Youth Development Outcomes. This position must work closely and effectively with the Director of Facilities to ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment, and supplies are managed and maintained. This position will be responsible for assisting in recruiting and retaining staff as well as training and development; maintaining targeted membership and attendance while utilizing volunteers as necessary. The Director of Operations reports directly to the Chief Operations Officer.

    Essential Functions:
    • Club Leadership and Strategic Planning:
    • Assumes ultimate management responsibility for all staff members and volunteers working at the Club. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to: hiring, compensation, employee recognition, and performance management decisions, oversight of training plans, ongoing performance assessments and annual evaluations.
    • Lead, inspire, motivate and develop a team, modeling confidence, ethical behavior, great customer service, exceptional communication and a commitment to innovation, integrity, and accountability
    • Responsible for the direct supervision and development of Area Managers
    • Decisiveness: Uses sound reasoning, available information, and past experience to solve problems in a timely manner; stands by decisions; ensures appropriate action is taken; makes decisions effectively
    • Developing Others: Directs and motivates others; provides timely and specific feedback; changes coaching style to fit individual needs; assesses strengths and development needs of team members and provides opportunities for growth

    • Schedules and conducts regular staff meetings
    • Plans for and ensures that the environment, programs, and services prepare youth for success; ensures programs delivered result in positive outcomes
    • Communicates, implements, and enforces organization’s operational policies and procedures
    • Seeks optimum use of club facilities, staff and resources to fulfill organization’s mission and strategic plan
    • Analyzes club’s needs, resources, and community demographics to identify and implement actions to optimize club use by disadvantaged and at-risk communities
    • Analyzes and reviews club’s membership levels and average daily attendance and develops and implements strategies to increase membership and ADA. Plans and takes actions required to obtain community and volunteer support
    • Ensures Human Resources policies and procedures are communicated and followed, including recruiting, compensation, benefits, and employee relations
    • Handles crisis situations and takes action to resolve conflicts, disputes and concerns of staff, club members, volunteers, and parents
    • Evaluation of programming activity and impact is regularly & consistently reviewed. Action steps are implemented, reviewed & updated regularly and program improvements are made as a regular process
    Club Management & Development:
    • Functions as a liaison between the Clubs, families, outside partners (schools)
    • Collaborates with Area Managers to determine staffing levels and hours that best support effective club operations and program delivery
    • Develops performance objectives for direct reports; monitors performance, provides on-going and periodic feedback on performance; ensures same activities are followed by club management. Utilizes interns and volunteers to support club initiatives as needed
    • Encourage and promote diversity awareness and diversity of staff, volunteers, and members
    Club Programs & Services:
    • Working with the Quality & Implementation Manager to ensures designated and daily year-round and summer programs are delivered, that programs meet stated objectives, member needs and interests, and are organized and engaging; monitors programs and collaborates with staff to plan and implement improvements. Plans and implements procedures to measure and report outcomes. Ensures BGCM’s standards are communicated, understood and followed. Ensures club’s programming, special events and field trips are properly planned and supervised
    • Observes members and works with staff to correct unsafe behaviors, to enforce safety rules and to communicate safety guidelines. Ensures emergency procedures are implemented and followed and takes actions to prevent accidents
    Community Relations:
    • Represent BGCM in our community ensuring that the interests of the youth are protected and supported
    Club Facility and Property:
    • Provide oversight of the maintenance and upkeep of their facility, vehicle(s), equipment, and grounds (coordinating with the Director of Facilities) ensuring that a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment is created for Club members in an efficient, cost effective manner
    • Assesses risk and implements programs and policies to minimize loss and exposure to loss
    • Communicates and enforces organization’s policies, procedures and standards with regard to upkeep, usage and maintenance of buildings, vehicles and equipment, and monitors for compliance
    Administrative:
    • Ensures information and other data maintained on programs, membership, etc. are accurate and timely
    • Collaborates with Area Managers to develop budget that supports club needs; monitors and controls expenditures and reports variances. Approves club’s expenditures to authorized level and ensures expenditures considered costs and best value
    • Prepares accurate, timely paperwork required to hire, compensate, transfer, terminate and discipline employees. Prepares reports for Chief Operations Officer that describes club’s successes, challenges, opportunities and needs
    • Other duties may be assigned

    • Experience working with and demonstrating compassion and/or sensitivity toward vulnerable populations and individuals with diverse backgrounds present in the organization’s service population, both individually and in groups
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with Club staff, Board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies

    Required:
    • Bachelor’s degree required. Substitute education for experience, Six (6) years of professional experience in Youth Development, Education, or related field
    • Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in managing, directing programs, developing and implementing strategic and tactical plans, and building/managing a professional staff, preferably in human services and/or youth development. Boys & Girls Clubs experience preferred
    • Experience managing/maintaining a facility and developing community support of club operations and programs
    • Ability to handle crisis and to resolve conflicts, disputes or concerns in the club among staff, club members, volunteers or parents
    • Considerable knowledge of the mission, vision, core beliefs, objectives, policies, , procedures, principles, and practices of non-profit organizations and youth development services; knowledgeable of Boys & Girls Clubs programs a plus
    • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate staff
    • Strong presentation skills
    • Must effectively and comfortably manage in a virtual environment:
      • Must serve as a technology advocate and understand the tools available and optimal methods to ensure utilization of technology is promoted at every opportunity
      • Must be able to inspire trust and motivate virtual teams using strong communication, developmental and interpersonal skills and an ability to adapt to different virtual platforms
      • Must successfully guide virtual teams, communicate clear goals, and facilitate problem solving
    • Must be proficient in the use of Windows, Internet, Microsoft Suite (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access or other database software proficiency), Zoom or other Virtual Meeting platforms, and Google Platform (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
    • Ability to earn and maintain mandatory CPR & First aid certification or obtain within 6 months of hire
    • Maintain a valid driver’s license and meet eligibility requirements to drive a BGCM vehicle
    • Candidates must be able to pass a drug test, criminal and driving records investigation
    • The ability to read and write is necessary to complete reports and properly document program and organizational data
