Env., Health, and Safety Engineer implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineer is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineer serves as contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor. To be an Env., Health, and Safety Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     This position will Maintain and Establish the health and safety of the plant workforce by monitoring and evaluating health and safety conditions; assuring the compliance with applicable policies, procedures and governmental standards; and maintenance of the Safety Programs (GMP, SQF, OSHA, etc.) for the facility. Positively reinforcing the values of Safety for all.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop, administer and train on effective occupational health, safety, ergonomics and industrial hygiene programs, including health services functions and maintenance of related policy and procedures in accordance with all applicable governmental agencies, client requirements as well as OHSAS 18001 requirements.
    • Be knowledgeable in Positive Safety and incorporate training programs to assist with corporate Safety initiatives
    • Educate, motivate and train all personnel on all OSHA regulations, good housekeeping practices, safe work procedures, PPE, etc.
    • Monitor and keep up to date on CPR, Defib certified personnel.
    • Sample, measure and evaluate employee exposures to in-plant chemical contaminants, and physical agents such as heat and noise exposure.
    • Monitor, analyze and record performance of the plant exhaust and make-up air ventilation systems.
    • Manage the plant personal protective equipment, work clothing and safety equipment programs according to company standards.
    • Administer the respiratory protection program, including quantitative fit testing, respirator distribution, cleaning and sanitizing.
    • Assist HR in administration of the workers' compensation program, including effective medical case management, reporting, record maintenance and follow-up.
    • Develop and implement effective plant programs for the identification, prevention and control of occupational injuries and illnesses.
    • Develop and coordinate plant health and safety education and training programs.
    • Serve on the plant safety committee as Co-Chairperson.
    • Maintain current awareness of applicable federal, state and local health, industrial hygiene and safety regulations.
    • Maintain legal, governmental and company environmental, health, medical and safety-related records according to standards, including confidentiality.
    • Maintain an accurate OSHA 300 log.
    • Accompany visiting inspectors and report findings.
    • Administer the plant hazard communication program, including maintaining up-to-date SDS's, effective identification of all chemicals, chemical inventory and related training and education programs.
    • Review all manufacturing and support operations to assure ongoing safety.
    • Assist the organization in developing risk assessments and safe operating procedures for all tasks and in investigating incidents.
    • Enhance current as well as develop and implement audit programs to review and assure compliance with applicable health and safety standards.
    • Conduct Safety Drills (Fire, Active Shooter, Natural Catastrophe)
    • Incident reporting, documentation and active remediation of such
    • Accumulate, prepare and enter health, industrial hygiene, and medical and safety data into the computer system. Analyze data and prepare standard and other requested reports for plant and regional management.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree required. Occupational Safety/Industrial Hygiene or related field highly preferred.
    • Minimum 5-6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory/management role.
    • Previous experience in environmental/manufacturing environment highly preferred.
    • Previous experience with wastewater monitoring a
    • Experience with medical surveillance and biological monitoring programs.
    • Experience with administering a hazardous communication program, including managing and leading an emergency response team.
    • Previous experience with OSHA. DEA, SQF GMP a
    • Relevant certifications (e.g. SQF, OSHA, Hazwoper) a plus
