Env., Health, and Safety Engineer implements and maintains company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. Involved in the design and development of facilities, work areas and work procedures and makes environmental, health and safety recommendations accordingly. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineer is responsible for preparing, maintaining, and updating environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineer serves as contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies. May require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor. To be an Env., Health, and Safety Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     This role has current pay of $85,000. The listed pay represents the company’s good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum base rate of pay for this position at the time of this posting. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on their work location, qualifications, relevant experience, operational needs, demonstrated performance over time, and internal pay alignment.     This is an onsite work position (not remote).  Worksite location is not limited to Paulsboro, NJ, but will be determined based on best candidate for the role.   

    Summary:

    • Manage HES field compliance at respective locations.
    • Responsible for day-to-day HES field compliance in respective field locations.
    • Responsible for supporting assigned sites during emergency spills clean up, injuries and HES related incident investigations.
    • Responsible for Emergency Response programs.
    • Responsible for OSHA safety compliance program.
    • Promote HES.

    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    • Manage HES field compliance at assigned sites.
    • Apply HES policy and procedures to ensure field compliance.
    • Assist in development of HES policy and procedures to ensure field compliance.
    • Implement OSHA safety program, including PSM based safety program, industrial hygiene program, medical surveillance program, safety recognition program, etc.
    • Ensure completion of day-to-day health, safety, and emergency response activities, agency notifications, agency inspections, compliance reporting and recordkeeping.
    • Represent company in regulatory inspections and information requests.
    • Minimize civil and criminal environmental liabilities through communications and negotiations.
    • Support regional field operation in all HES matters.
    • Multi-department interaction on HES issues.
    • Promote teamwork and HES.
    • Promote continuous HES improvement in all field offices through participation and assistance in incident investigations, lesson learned, audits, and best practices.

     

    Requirements:

    Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The requirements for this position are listed below:

    Required Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Degree in safety, environmental, engineering or related field preferred.
    • Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

    Required experience

    • 2 to 5 years specific related experience in the petroleum or chemical process industry
    • Must have or be able to obtain TWIC credential.

    Required Skills

    • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • Able to work under pressure in deadline driven & fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to work independently and hold self-accountable to meet deadlines.
    • Capability to multi-task with good organization skills
    • Problem solving and decision making with minimal supervision.
    • Takes ownership of assignments and is focused on tasks given.
    • Ability to read, comprehend and comment to regulatory standards.
    • MS Office Suite Proficiency

     

    Working Conditions:

    The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

    • Usually, normal office working conditions.
    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
    • Occasional overnight travel may be required (15-25%).
    • Exposure to adverse weather, cramped conditions, and some heavy lifting
    • Visits to industrial/manufacturing settings, which may include exposure to various materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment.
