    ESA seeks a highly motivated CEQA Deputy Project Manager with CEQA experience to join our Southern California Water Team. Our ideal candidate has 5 years of experience, but candidates with 2 years of experience who meet the qualifications will also be considered at a lower level.

    We are interested in proactive candidates who have the intellectual curiosity to continue the advancement of our established team of water planners and environmental consultants. This opportunity is focused on collaboration, delivery, and client service. Preference given to candidates able to work hybrid from our San Diego office, but other locations in southern California will be considered.

    Who You Are

    You are an entry to mid-level professional with a strong desire to grow and advance your career and to develop your environmental planning and project management skills.

    You are an effective team member with at least 2 years of experience supporting the preparation of environmental documentation. You have experience in water resources planning and environmental review of water infrastructure projects. You are experienced at preparing CEQA technical sections and understand the environmental review process and its regulations. Proficiency in CEQA is required. Our ideal candidate has 5 years of experience, but candidates with 2 years of experience who meet the qualifications will also be considered at a lower level.

    You have strong writing skills, effective oral presentation skills, listening skills, and ability to present information understandably about basic or moderately complex topics to clients, agency staff, teaming partners, and other project stakeholders.

    Under direction of a Project Manager, you have worked collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team to prepare environmental analysis under CEQA; performed project functions such as development and tracking of scope, schedule, and invoices; and delivered project assignments on time and within budget.

    You hold a bachelor's degree with major course work in environmental science or planning, water resources, geography, public policy, or related interdisciplinary field.

    You are able to work hybrid from one of our California offices. Remote candidates in CA will be considered, with preference given to candidates able to work hybrid in our San Diego Office.

    What You Will Do for ESA

    As a CEQA Deputy Project Manager, you will assist in managing environmental review for water infrastructure projects. You will be an author of technical CEQA sections for public water sector clients, coordinating internal teams and communicating with clients. You will work independently on various writing assignments and contribute to the compilation of CEQA reports and successful processing of documentation.

    You will assist in managing task or project delivery schedules, managing logistics, disseminating, and maintaining related information and resources. You may also assist with managing budget tracking and invoicing, meeting with team members to gauge progress toward task completion and responding to team member or client questions about assigned tasks or projects.

    You will apply critical thinking and problem-solving to evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques and procedures in the development of environmental planning documents. You will be required to effectively communicate with staff and clients.

    You will perform research and analysis in specific or general project areas, including occasional field evaluations and assessments.

    ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position with 2-7 years of experience, the range is $69,764 - $101,158 annually or $78,936 - $114,457 annually based on our anticipated hiring location as noted in the above job details. For this position with 5 years of experience, the range is $88,538 - $132,807 annually or $100,178 - $150,268 annually based on our anticipated hiring location as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by many factors including an individual's related experience, education, skills, and the city where the applicant lives.
