Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Estimating Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Opportunity

    The Board of Directors is seeking an Executive Director who envisions themself at the helm of a mission-driven organization that strives to enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

    We need a strategic thinker to manage our $500k budget and oversee the operations of our afterschool and summer programming for Brattleboro area youth ages 5-18, at two separate locations. This entails working closely with staff and Board members to ensure the fiscal sustainability and compassionate work culture at both our:

    • Nature-based, state-licensed child care program operating out of the Retreat Farm in Brattleboro
    • Downtown teen center, providing unique enrichment programs for 11 to 18-year-olds in our own 8,000 square foot facility, including an indoor skate park

    Responsibilities of this position demand exceptional skills in fiscal oversight, grant management, staff & community relations. Our next leader will also require a strong knowledge of non-profit management, Board functionality and child development.

    The Executive Director will work closely with The Board of Directors and Boys & Girls Club of America to ensure compliance with national policies and membership requirements. Our affiliation with Boys & Girls Club of America grants us premium professional consulting services including staff & board training, peer support throughout Vermont, and a wealth of invaluable organizational resources.

    Our ambition for the future of this organization is to provide more local youth with essential skills and attitudes to lead healthy, productive lives in vocation, community service, and environmental stewardship. This can be achieved by increasing the number of youths served and improving program efficacy. Our new Executive Director will be tasked with setting the vision, garnering the community’s support, and harnessing the resources to achieve this two-fold impact improvement.

    Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro was founded in Brattleboro in 1999 as a chartered member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

    The Club serves 300 children a year and is recognized as a visible hub of support, education, and fun for youth. We are open every weekday after school with extended hours on holidays and vacation weeks.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Monitor and comply with the organization’s policies, programs & budget to ensure achievement of the mission and goals in collaboration with and support of the Board of Directors
    • Oversee staffing activities of the organization, including recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating both paid and volunteer staff
    • Attain resources necessary to ensure the stable financial operations of the organizations are conducted in accordance with organization’s fiscal policies and state/federal laws
    • Prepare and manage annual budget with oversight from our Financial Controller, Treasurer & Finance Committee
    • Direct & participate in public relations and fundraising activities, lead activities to raise funds or otherwise solicit and gather monetary donations or other gifts for the organization
    • Work diligently with our grant writer to seek out and apply for grants that will support the operational needs of our organization
    • Engage individuals, other organizations, and the local community with a focus on collaborative programming and fundraising
    • Develop and adhere to administrative and operational standards
    • Ensure that the organization is in compliance with membership and other requirements or standards of Boys & Girls Club of America, other affiliated and regulatory agencies and that the organization has standards and measures in place that define effective safety practices, train to those annually and identify vulnerabilities and strategies to mitigate risk
    • Implement strategic plans as set by the Board of Directors, as well as annual goals and objectives; Guidance and direction are provided by the Chair of the Board, and by the Board and its Executive Committee
    • Provide professional leadership to the Board of Directors and engage Board members in developing and meeting the goals of the organization
    • Demonstrate that safety of children is a core value, ensure that the management system conforms with membership requirements and industry standards and is actively engaged in the safety improvement process

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or 5 years experience in nonprofit management

    Compensation

    • $68,000-78,000, Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
