Estimator - Cost develops cost estimates for projects based on work scope, specifications, and contract proposals using applicable estimating methodologies and tools. Analyzes project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being a Estimator - Cost uses benchmark data, trends, prior estimates, and historical pricing schedules to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Additionally, Estimator - Cost provides guidance and training on estimating best practices. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. The Estimator and his/her team serves as the primary contact between the Company and the customer and will work with the customer and the insurance company to provide a thorough estimate of all structural and content-related costs associated with remediation, restoration, repair, and reconstruction of damaged properties and remodeling projects.
The Estimator is responsible for performing site inspections, documenting losses with accurate measurements, notes, and photographs with strong attention to detail; estimating the cost of emergency services, remediation, restoration, repairs, reconstruction, and remodeling of the entire project through the use of Xactimate; negotiating project costs with insurance company representatives and customers as assigned; communicating with the Project Manager and Production Coordinator issues that will affect the project schedule and/or budget.
The Estimator is responsible for a smooth hand-off of the project to the Project Manager and production team.
