Facilities Director manages the maintenance, construction, repair, and refurbishment operations of one or more facilities or properties. Implements policies and procedures that ensure the optimal functioning of buildings, grounds, and associated equipment. Being a Facilities Director monitors daily building operations of all systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management to ensure reliability. Tracks work orders for quality, adherence to service standards, and budgeted guidelines. Additionally, Facilities Director directs training of managers, supervisors, and employees in best practices for maintenance work, service and safety standards, and local laws and regulations. Oversees vendors or contractors engaged for construction projects. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Facilities Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Facilities Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • This position is responsible for leading and managing the facilities team through coordination of resources and activities for all facilities functions in the plant and will provide the technical link between facilities functions and production needs.


    Position Responsibilities may include:

    • Manages and inspects work of facility contractors and agencies.
    • Authorizes purchase orders for acquisition of assets, material and supplies; approves payment and administers various contracts within budgetary appropriations.
    • Ensuring the facility complies with relevant laws, regulations and safety standards.
    • Handles long-range planning to support future needs and growth of the business.
    • Develops plans for renovations, additions or new buildings.
    • Approves selection of staff; trains staff and provides for their professional development; administers discipline as required.
    • Develops and implements long and short-range goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the facility department
    • Oversees the operation and maintenance of all utility systems, such as electricity, water, cooling, compressed air, etc.
    • Manages contract agencies for janitorial, food service, grounds maintenance, powered industrial vehicle repair, and fire alarm/ equipment reporting systems.
    • Perform additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs.

    • Develops and implements strategic plans and objectives for the department/sub-function in an effective and innovative fashion
    • Understands the business and can put together comprehensive department solutions
    • Works with other leaders to establish strategic plans and works towards achieving them
    • Provides leadership and direction to managers in their respective division/department
    • Sees to department staffing needs (e.g. interviewing, hiring, new hire and ongoing training, annual evaluations, etc.)
    • Participates in budget development and monitoring of expenses
    • Level of signing authority established by company policy/guidelines

    Knowledge & Skills:

    • Excellent leadership skills; able to envision, develop, direct, manage, delegate responsibility and authority and motivate an organization.
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office – Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
    • Advanced knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems and their administration.
    • Strong communication skills; clearly convey and transmit information through written and verbal form including business acumen. Superior writing and presentation skills.
    • Priority setting – capable of managing multiple inputs and directions to deliver the desired results
    • Strong team player, results orientated, dedication to excellence and sense of urgency to achieve business objectives
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the organization and vendors
    • Ability to apply good judgement, strong work ethics and integrity on the job.

    Competency:

    Experience:

    • 10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment as a facilities or maintenance leader

    Education/Certification:

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering, project management, or a related field required (Equivalent experience accepted)
    • Graduate degree preferred

    People Management: Yes
