FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises and coordinates the day-to-day maintenance and support of buildings, grounds, and facilities systems. Oversees staff installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management. Being a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR tracks work orders and ensures work follows established service and quality standards for completion. Schedules and supervises preventative maintenance, painting, or carpentry projects. Additionally, FACILITIES SUPERVISOR maintains a safe and effective working environment that complies with regulations and laws. May coordinate work to be completed by contractors and skilled trades. Typically requires an associate degree. Typically reports to a manager. The FACILITIES SUPERVISOR supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. To be a FACILITIES SUPERVISOR typically requires 3 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Facilities Management oversees maintenance for all county buildings, provides custodial services at 26 locations, manages 300 HVAC systems, offers 24/7 emergency support, and operates a daily mail courier service covering 90 miles for 34 facilities.


    This position preforms general maintenance, renovations and/or alterations to assigned County properties. Works within broad policy and organizational guidelines, independently plans and implements projects.   Reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.

    This vacancy is for a Supervisor C which supervises and coordinates staff of custodians and floor technicians, plans and schedules daily tasks and projects. The schedule for this full-time position is Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Tuesday, Thursday, from 4:30 PM to 1:30 AM.


    • Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
    • Supervises, plans, and coordinates work of assigned staff.  Reviews and evaluates employee performance and completes performance evaluations.  Counsels staff and initiates commendations or disciplinary action when appropriate.
    • Participates in job interviews and confers with Facilities Management Director in selection of new employees.
    • Purchases, receives and stocks cleaning supplies, fills and delivers cleaning supply orders to County facilities, and maintains physical inventory controls.
    • Maintains inventory records, enters information into computer data system for tracking. Prepares and submits routine and special reports.
    • Inspects County facilities on a regular basis for compliance with contracted service agreements and established standards.
    • Confers with management of contracted companies as to compliance and schedule issues. Generates reports tracking contract compliance.
    • Leads and/or attends staff conferences, professional meetings, and training workshops.
    • Remains on-call 24 hours a day to respond to emergencies.
    • Performs other duties as required.
    Education, Training, and Experience
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and formal training, special course or self-education that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of one (1) year of college education or specialized advanced training.
    • Four (4) years relevant experience.
    • Prior maintenance, custodial, and/or floor maintenance experience.
     
    Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
    • Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
    • Ability to work after normal business hours (includes nights and weekend) to respond to emergencies.
    • Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
    • Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
    • Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
      • IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
      • IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System

    Physical Requirements/Work Environment
    • Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
    • The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
    • The job requires frequent balancing, and occasional bending, squatting, twisting, and reaching above shoulders.
    • The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, typing, operating foot controls/levers, and driving automotive equipment.
    • The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
    • The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, and extreme noise.

    Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
    • All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
