Responsibilities:
1. Routine Repairs and Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections of the church facilities to identify areas needing repairs or maintenance.
- Perform minor repairs such as fixing leaky faucets, repairing broken doors, and addressing minor electrical issues.
- Carry out painting and decorating tasks to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the church.
- Address any wear and tear issues promptly to prevent further deterioration.
2. Grounds Maintenance:
- Help maintain the church grounds, ensuring that the landscaping is well-kept. At times this may include mowing the lawn, trimming hedges, and removing weeds.
- Perform seasonal tasks.
- Ensure that walkways and entrances are safe and accessible, addressing any hazards promptly.
3. HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical Systems:
- Conduct basic maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, ensuring they are functioning properly.
- Replace air filters, clean vents, and perform other routine HVAC maintenance tasks.
- Address minor plumbing issues and coordinate with specialized contractors for major repairs or installations.
- Replace light bulbs, fix minor electrical issues, and ensure that all electrical systems are safe and up to code.
4. Preventive Maintenance:
- Follow a preventive maintenance schedule for all church facilities and equipment.
- Regularly check the condition of roofs, walls, floors, and other structural elements, addressing any issues promptly.
- Ensure that all equipment, including heating and cooling systems, is serviced regularly to prevent breakdowns.
5. Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
- Safely operate a variety of maintenance equipment and tools, including power tools, and hand tools.
- Perform regular maintenance on equipment to ensure it is in good working order.
- Store equipment safely and securely when not in use.
6. Waste Management:
- Ensure that waste is disposed of properly and in accordance with local regulations.
- Manage recycling efforts and encourage the congregation to participate in sustainable practices.
- Coordinate with waste management services for regular waste pickup and disposal.
7. Special Projects:
- Assist in planning and executing special maintenance projects as directed by church leadership.
- Coordinate with volunteers or other staff members to complete projects in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ensure that all projects are completed safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.
8. Cleaning and Sanitization:
- Ensure the cleanliness of the church, including the sanctuary, meeting rooms, restrooms, and common areas.
- Properly sanitize surfaces and areas in accordance with health and safety guidelines.
9. Event Setup and Breakdown:
- Assist in setting up and breaking down for church events, services, and meetings.
- Ensure that rooms are arranged according to specified requirements and are properly cleaned after use.
10. Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all facilities comply with health and safety regulations.
- Maintain fire safety equipment and conduct regular fire drills.
- Address any safety concerns promptly and effectively.
11. Vendor Management:
- Coordinate with external vendors for specialized maintenance services.
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure services are completed satisfactorily.
12. Inventory Management:
- Keep track of maintenance supplies and reorder as necessary.
- Manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
13. Other Duties:
- Respond to emergency calls for maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by church leadership.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational training is a plus.
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general carpentry.
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment and tools safely and effectively.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
