Summary:
Responsible for managing programs, policies and practices related to environmental, health and safety compliance, facility security & grounds, emergency & evacuation, loss prevention, and workers' compensation. Acts as the facility coordinator and primary contact for internal customers and external agencies for all matters pertaining to facilities & maintenance, and environmental, health & safety. Manages and directs the facilities and maintenance team.
Performance Objectives:
Provides technical support and direction for environmental compliance programs and practices. Oversees the management of wastewater treatment practices and environmental laboratory operation.
Develops, recommends and implements programs to assure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal environmental regulations including documentation, reporting, permits, manifests, training, and policy development. Coordinates and manages all on-site hazardous materials.
Oversees all aspects of safety and health administration. Influences positive and proactive safety programs and practices. Leads and facilitates the plant safety committee.
Manages and supports local, state and federal health and safety regulatory compliance. Develops, implements, and communicates safety policies and procedures.
Manages all loss prevention and workers' compensation programs. Acts as the primary contact for all employees on accident reporting, investigation and hazard elimination. Tracks all activity for the facility related to lost work time, return to work initiatives, and restricted duty provisions. Coordinates disability related absences with Human Resources.
Manages the ISO 14001 and Nadcap audit process.
Develops and administers EH&S training and communication programs (HAZCOM, HAZMAT, confined space, personal protective equipment, SDS, Job Safety Analysis, etc.).
Participates in new hire orientation.
Facilitates contractor safety orientation programs.
Prioritizes and directs all facility and maintenance activity. Coordinates work load, scheduling and activities of facilities and maintenance team. Provides direct supervision and manages performance for facilities and maintenance team members.
Acts as the primary contact for facility and grounds security and access. Acts as the emergency evacuation coordinator for the facility.
Interfaces with vendors, external agencies, plant, division and corporate contacts regarding various initiatives, programs and practices.
Demonstrate continual focus on improvements and enhancements.
Helps to ensure that quality and standards for the department are adhered to and maintained.
Assumes other special activities and responsibilities from time to time as required.
Adheres to Howmet EH&S, Quality, Continuous Improvements and other Company Policies.
Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, chemistry, engineering, or related technical field. Safety professional/industrial hygienist certification highly desirable.
Minimum of five years' experience facilitating and managing environmental, health and safety programs in manufacturing plus three years managing or coordinating facilities and maintenance responsibilities. Must have broad knowledge of local, state, and federal programs and regulations relating to EH&S. Must be experienced in safety and environmental inspection and audit processes. Previous experience in acquisition of permits and interaction with regulators is desired. Prior experience leading maintenance and facilities projects and programs is necessary. Must have excellent communication, presentation, and persuasion skills. Must be able to prioritize and complete multiple and diverse work assignments with minimal direction and supervision.
