Job Summary
FSI is looking to hire a HVAC Mechanic to join our team. This position, under general supervision, installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in HealthCare and commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout. Must have a strong skillset in troubleshooting, repairing, and performing maintenance on commercial HVAC systems. One year experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
Essential Functions Performs other duties as assigned.
Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment.
Installs evaporators, compressors, and other equipment in chassis or in air duct system, using hand tools. Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools. Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment. Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
Performs work on HVAC and Refrigeration equipment such as fans, vacuum pumps, compressors, vents, ducts, air driers, ice machines, air handlers, package units, chillers, boilers, chill and hot water pumps, chill water systems, refrigerant systems, ductless systems, steam generators, UV light systems, VAV Boxes, etc.
Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panel to power source.
Installs air and water filters in completed installations.
Troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, replaces, calibrates, and adjusts, pilots, thermostats and burners, transformers, relays, heaters, elements, switches, and controls etc. on HVAC electrical systems. Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring etc. to repair installed units, using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
Observes HVACR systems using pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation. Tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges and/or soap-and-water solution. Properly evacuates and recharges refrigerant systems using industry standard equipment, tools, charts, and logs. Installs expansion and discharge valves in circuits.
Wraps pipe in insulation batting and secures it in place with cement or wire bands.
Install, repair and service HVAC equipment of all types and sizes within the commercial and healthcare building environments.
Utilizes blueprints, schematics, industry charts, equipment manuals, electrical diagrams, etc. to successfully perform work on HVAC and ancillary equipment.
Uses tools of the trade (e.g. multimeter, refrigerant gauges, manometers, barometers, psychrometers, refrigerant vacuums, charging charts, hand tools, etc.) to perform the work.
Responsible for conforming to all safe work practices and procedures.
Maintains the general cleanliness and appearance of self and of assigned spaces,
Interacts professionally and courteously with government officials, staff, patients, and fellow co-workers. As needed assists others as part of the maintenance team.
Qualifications
Four years' experience in HVAC mechanical and machine equipment repair, plus knowledge of the use of specialized tools to perform necessary repairs and to troubleshoot equipment. Must possess valid state's driver's license. The individual may be required to pass an annual physical examination. Must have EPA Universal Technician Certification or obtain certification with 60 days.
