    Job Description
    This is a university faculty position with academic rank based upon the appointee’s academic and experiential qualifications. The position is eligible for tenure-track. Instructor positions are temporary appointments renewable annually by separate contract at the sole discretion of the University. This individual will serve as the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFWC) of the new Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Bachelor’s degree program at Weber State University.

    This is a leadership position, which requires a person with extensive skills, the ability to be a core faculty member, and a desire to serve in multiple roles within the OTA program. This position will include assisting the Program Director in developing the new curriculum and preparing program proposal documents for the university, accreditors, and state entities, and establishing future fieldwork relationships and sites. The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator may also assist the Program Director in designing new laboratory spaces and purchasing equipment and supplies needed for this new program. This new program has received substantial new funding from a generous donor.

    Job Duties
    The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator is responsible for coordinating multiple ongoing projects, communicating effectively with community partners, as well as the Program Director, and other department faculty. Specific responsibilities and skills include locating, marketing, recruiting, developing, and evaluating new and existing fieldwork sites. The faculty member will be responsible for initiating and negotiating affiliation agreements/clinical training agreements/MOUs, scheduling and confirming student placements, collecting and interpreting data for fieldwork program evaluation and curriculum development, and creating and maintaining protocol and/or procedures for program compliance with ACOTE Standards. The individual will create and implement Level I and II Fieldwork practice and procedures to ensure that they align with the program’s curriculum design. They will also ensure that students meet site health and onboarding requirements for site placements. This person will develop and update fieldwork educator handbooks, student manuals, and fieldwork course syllabi.

    This faculty member will collaborate with fieldwork sites and fieldwork educators to design learning experiences specific to the fieldwork context, monitor student progress during a fieldwork rotation, provide mediation as needed, and advise fieldwork educators working with struggling students. The individual will contribute to site quality through mentorship and educational opportunities for fieldwork educators to improve supervisory and instructional skills. This person will identify new and emerging practice areas and design programs that support student learning in these areas.

    This individual will teach courses in the OTA program and may also teach courses in the Rehabilitation Sciences undergraduate program. This faculty member will instruct, mentor, provide feedback, and evaluate students within their areas of expertise and interest and will assure the availability of remedial instruction. The individual will also be responsible for ongoing curricular assessment and active participation in the development, initiation, and incorporation of instructional experiences within the curriculum design. This faculty member will participate in the Department of Athletic Training through service on department, college, and university-level committees as time allows.

    Participation in activities of state, regional, and national organizations to promote a positive image of OTAs within academic, lay, and professional communities is encouraged.

    Required Qualifications
    Required Qualifications:
    • License in good standing as an OTA or OT in the state of Utah (or eligible – must obtain by start date)
    • Hold a minimum of a master’s degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting agency.
    • A minimum of 2 years of documented experience in the field of occupational therapy. This experience must include:
      • Clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist or as an occupational therapy assistant.
      • Professional experience as a fieldwork educator or documentation of training in the roles and responsibilities of a fieldwork educator.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Doctoral degree
    • 5 years of clinical experience working as an occupational therapist or OTA.
    • 2 years of educational and administrative experience in an academic setting.
    • Demonstrated abilities in teaching and curriculum development.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
    • Strong critical thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    • Familiarity with the use of computers for organization, word processing, and communication.
    • Evidence of marketing, analytic and outcome skills.
