PURPOSE: The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair all landfill equipment to ensure that equipment stays in good working condition.
Job duties include but are not limited to:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
Requires completion of a high school diploma or equivalent, six (6) years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment. Must possess a valid drivers license.
Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with this position. Knowledge of the diagnostic, preventive maintenance and repair methods. Knowledge of materials (e.g. fuel, oils, filters, metals, cleaning, chemicals/solvents, replacement parts, etc.) used for preventive maintenance and repair. Knowledge of proper care, accountability and usage of tools and equipment (e.g. hand, pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic and computerized tools, etc.) used for diagnostic, preventive maintenance and repair. Knowledge of operating characteristics and controls (steering, suspension systems, transmission, hydraulic systems, air/hydraulic brakes, electrical systems, and pumps. Knowledge, experience, and ability to repair and maintain equipment, machinery and tools. Skill in mechanical repair, adjustment, and fabrication of automotive, heavy construction and maintenance equipment, gas and diesel-powered equipment. Skill to independently detect, analyze, diagnose situations accurately in order to determine and implement effective and appropriate courses of action to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment in shop or a field environment. Skill to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to analyze, diagnose and resolve mechanical issues. Ability to perform basic inspections and repair with limited supervision of the following heavy truck, or automotive systems: suspensions & steering; general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drive train, diesel emissions.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires standing, walking, sitting, gripping with hands, reaching with hands and arms, climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, talking and hearing. This position requires lifting up to 50 pounds. The position requires: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less). Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more). Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors). Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down or to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point).
