Job Summary

• Preparation and splicing of fiber optic cables in both indoor and outdoor environments.
• Good working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure; familiarity with fiber optic cable and splice enclosures; ability to use fusion splicing equipment and test equipment, including an OTDR; Ability to read, create and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams. Ability to identify and troubleshoot fiber issues; Must be able to maintain control of activities surrounding the assigned work site(s); Maintain accurate splicing and field notes; Support project timelines and provide accurate feedback.
• Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Splice fiber optic cables including both loose tube and ribbon optic cables. Construct a proper splice case, including but not limited to: grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage and sealing.
• Prepare and maintain splicing records, schematics and diagrams.
• Perform work in accordance with industry standards and adhere to safety procedures.
• Travel will be required and may be up to 80%, depending on the business needs.
• The company reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Job Qualifications

• Education: 2 years of technical education or training.
• Experience: 2 years of field experience as a telecommunications technician.

• Ability to climb and work at elevations (e.g. from ladders, poles, lift trucks) exceeding 18 feet.
• Ability to work in confined spaces (e.g. attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
• Ability to pay close attention to detail and make good sound decisions based on information given.
• Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
