Finance Director directs an organization's financial policies, planning, reporting and controls. Oversees all financial functions including accounting, budget, credit, risk, tax, and treasury. Being a Finance Director generally is the second most senior finance executive. Requires a master's degree in accounting or finance or equivalent. Additionally, Finance Director may require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential. Typically reports to chief financial officer (CFO). The Finance Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Finance Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Gain an understanding of the cost of business activities such as raw material purchases, inventory and labor costs. Work with other departments to educate them on policies and procedures and help them understand their financial results. Assist with calculating the quarterly tax estimates and supporting the corporate tax team with timely information needed to prepare the annual tax returns. Assist with capital expenditure tracking of costs, including budget and actual. Support the VP of Finance & Accounting with special projects and workflow process improvements.
