TITLE: Financial Wellness Coach
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
LOCATION: 3123 Prospect Avenue Kansas City, MO 64128
STATUS: The Financial Wellness Coach is an Exempt position. This is a full-time position.
SALARY: The salary range is based on the current WeDevelopment Federal Credit Union Salary Administration schedule as approved by the Board of Directors.
I. PURPOSE
The Financial Wellness Coach (WC) is crucial to the financial advancement of our members. This position is a differentiator. The WC is our primary resource for moving our members from consumers to savers, then to borrowers who acquire assets, and continuing on as owners of assets/wealth builders, and finally as wealth transferers. The WC will coach our members starting from where they are in the financial value chain. Using the tools of financial education and behavior-change coaching, the WC will assist members in moving to the end-goal of generational wealth creation. Note, generational wealth is more than money, and not necessarily riches. It includes the successful transfer of habits, knowledge, skills, values, and assets to the next generation.
II. KEY FUNCTION
A Financial Wellness Coach requires excellent judgement and must exercise professional discretion to accurately assess each client’s unique situation and effectively develop personalized plans of action to help members manage counterproductive emotions about money and help develop a positive relationship with money to meet their financial goals. These plans include concrete recommendations for debt reduction, credit improvement, money management, use of financial services, asset protection and the pursuit of short- and long-term goals.
III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities
1. – obtain or create tools that will provide a snapshot of where each member is along the financial path and obtain their financial goals. Provide training to WeDevelopment staff in use of financial assessment tools.
2. – create a system for scheduling and delivering financial education and behavior-change coaching for members. Start with a pilot program and scale to meet the demand. Provide training to WeDevelopment on financial education and behavior-change coaching.
3. – survey member interest and then provide financial education in group sessions.
4. – create or obtain systems to measure outcomes and progress (Key Performance Indicators) for individual coaching sessions and group training activities.
5. – meet with organizations, business partners and churches to inform them of WDFCU features and benefits with a goal of growing our membership.
6. – build relationship with organizations that provide financial literacy products and/or services that can benefit our members.
7. – assist with grant applications for funding of financial literacy and payday lending alternative services.
Secondary Responsibilities
1. Support credit union staff as directed by the CEO.
IV. REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum requirements for this position include:
· No Certification needed in personal financial training/financial empowerment.
· Preferred 2 or more years of full-time work experience in personal finance, education, social services, community organizing or a related field.
· Preferred is specialized knowledge in financial empowerment services to low- and moderate-income individuals.
Required Skills:
· Self-motivated - able to work independently, meet deadlines without supervision and take ownership of personal finance research and continued learning.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ideally coaching and facilitation skills with adults or in non-traditional settings.
· Ability to exercise knowledge-based professional judgement and discretion to adapt services as needed.
· Strong attention to detail
· Robust critical thinking skills
· Ability to effectively receive and implement feedback.
· Teamwork
· Public Speaking skills
· Strong writing/editing skills – ability to create written tools, programs for members that are easy to follow and track.
Salary: Annual $43,680 - $47,886
Hourly: $21 – $23
