Fire Inspector conducts inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes. Prepares reports and issues violation documents. Being a Fire Inspector documents and defines actions needed to resolve non-compliance situations. Conducts fire investigations. Additionally, Fire Inspector has extensive knowledge of codes, ordinances, construction materials, and alarm systems. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science or equivalent. Has completed fire inspection training and may require the Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) credential and applicable State License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fire Inspector is capable of working on complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision. Has a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job. Position Summary:
Provide onsite inspections and service to ensure customer’s fire safety equipment is NFPA code compliant; recommend service and parts as needed by performing the primary duties below.
The successful candidate will be an ambitious self-starter, possess good oral and written communication skills, is punctual, and is willing to train on the job, as well as study afterhours towards Fire Industry certifications. Primary Duties:
Set up and conduct scheduled inspection visits to inspect fire safety equipment at customer premises.
Inspect fire extinguishing and fire protection systems to ensure equipment is operable and in NFPA code compliance.
Prepare timely and accurate reports of inspections.
Prepare reports and quotes listing repairs and replacements as needed.
Perform minor repairs that can be accomplished during inspection visit.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Possess or obtain valid New Mexico Driver’s License prior to start of employment.
Pass a drug and alcohol screening

Be able to legally work in the United States
Possess or be willing to obtain JES-3, and JES-14 certifications within 2 years of employment.
Possess or be willing to obtain JES-12 certification within 4 years of employment.
Qualifications – Minimum Education and/or Experience (Levels 1-4)
1) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;
6 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;
1 year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;
2 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. JES-3 certificate holder.
4) High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Community college or trade school desirable;
3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. JES-3 and JES-14 certificate holder.
Language & Mathematical Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.Ability to write simple correspondence.Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Basic math skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; calculation of percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
PC and smartphone literate, MS office basic skills.
