Fire Inspector conducts inspections of new and existing buildings to ensure compliance with fire and safety codes. Prepares reports and issues violation documents. Being a Fire Inspector documents and defines actions needed to resolve non-compliance situations. Conducts fire investigations. Additionally, Fire Inspector has extensive knowledge of codes, ordinances, construction materials, and alarm systems. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science or equivalent. Has completed fire inspection training and may require the Certified Fire Inspector I (CFI) credential and applicable State License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Fire Inspector is capable of working on complex problems and exceptions without direct supervision. Has a wide and comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of the job. What you will do
Helpers are responsible for assisting the Lead Fire Installer with conducting service, maintenance and repairs on Fire Systems. Johnson Controls will take an active role in laying out a training and development program for Fire Alarm Helpers to help them begin the apprenticeship program, achieve NICET certifications and get promoted to higher levels of responsibility in our organization and in the fire industry.
How you will do it
Assisting Lead Fire Installer in performing repairs, maintenance and testing of fire systems and associated devices to make sure they are fully functional and operational
Learn and follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and refer to technical manuals, part manuals, change notices and bulletins, modification notices, ect., in order to diagnose and repair equipment/system.
Complete Inspection reports and repair documents with proper coding through communication devices such as smartphone, laptop computers and/or hard copy
Follow and maintain a highly structured service schedule
Perform duties with the safety of yourself and your colleagues and customers in mind 100% of the time
Perform other duties as assigned
What we look for
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Able to work away from home 2 weeks out of a month
Demonstrate a high level of customer service
Able to work well with others
Self-starter who can eventually work with little to no supervision
Strong organizational skills, positive attitude, and an ability to learn quickly
Basic computer skills – Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook) along with Smartphone skills
Able to follow verbal and written instructions
Capable of performing physical labor to include carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 70 lbs.
Must be able to climb ladders and willing to work with scaffolding and high lift equipment up to 40 feet. Understanding this may include working within ducts, crawl spaces, above ceilings etc.
Able to work flexible hours including alternate shifts or weekends to meet customer requirements
Able to adhere to, implement, and always follow safety guidelines and procedures
Able to participate and successfully complete the apprenticeship program
Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements
Able to pass a pre-employment background and drug test
Preferred
Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, schematics, submittals and operational/product manuals (this can be taught to employee in first 12 months).
Understands the importance of providing quality service, inspection and technical installation support.
Experience with hand tools (this can be taught to employee in first 12 months)
HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $21-26 (Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
