    Qualifications

    • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree.
    • Previous food service management and supervisory experience required.
    • Computer experience required.
    • Accounting experience preferred.
    • Experience in preparing and managing a budget.
    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     • Must have SERVSAFE certification.

    Reports to: Superintendent of Schools

    Job Goal: To serve the students attractive, nutritious meals in a safe and healthy environment. To follow regulations and policies of the Board of Education, the USDA, and the Indiana Department of Education.

    Terms Of Employment

    Work Day: 8 hours /40 hours per week (1/2 hour unpaid lunch)

    52 work weeks per School Year

    Responsibilities

    Fringe benefits in accordance with Non-Certified Handbook

    • Plan monthly menus for all schools
    • Place orders as needed for all schools
    • Manage student accounts and information in Harmony.
    • Perform end of year roll overs in Harmony for cafeteria accounts, School Lunch ECA account and Summer Feeding Program
    • Pick-up paperwork (invoices, orders and deposits) from all schools
    • Post receipts in cafeteria ledger.
    • Check invoices for errors, create POs, and pay all monthly statements.
    • Perform monthly reconciliation for School Lunch ECA account
    • Prepare claims for monthly reimbursement for breakfast and lunch.
    • Prepare bi-annual financial reports.
    • Prepare bids for the school year and award items to vendors.
    • Conduct in-services with cooks on state regulations making sure regulations are followed.
    • Keep up-to-date-records for professional development
    • Evaluate all cooks
    • Keep job descriptions up-to-date
    • Inventory
    • Perform interviews for new hires
    • Approve all Free/reduced applications and send out notifications of approval
    • Run Direct Certification per IDOE specifications and complete yearly Verification reports.
    • Prepare end of year reports.
    • Do yearly onsite reviews of kitchens.
    • Oversee Summer Feeding Program.
    • Oversee cafeteria program making sure it operates smoothly.

    Food Service Director Is To Have

    • Knowledge of all state and federal food service regulations.
    • Knowledge of all sanitation regulations.
    • A good attendance and promptness record
    • Good job skills (accuracy and acceptability of work)
    • A good working attitude with students, other co-workers, and staff members.

    Other Skills And Abilities

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as cleaning supplies, pails and food items. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. such as frozen food items or canned goods. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as degreasers, and sprays. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
