    AFM’s team of professionals is focused on meeting client needs by providing a complete range of forestry services including land and wildlife management, land sale and acquisition services, forest inventory and design, growth and yield modeling, cash flow projections, environmental services, appraisal, forest resource data management and harvest scheduling.

    American Forest Management, Inc. seeks an experienced forester to join our team in Western Montana. This position will report to the Montana District Manager and be responsible for all aspects of forest management (planning, harvesting, roads, and silviculture) on multiple properties under AFM management, as well as other tasks assigned by the District and Region Managers.     Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    • Harvest unit layout
    • Regeneration and survival surveys
    • Road construction and maintenance layout
    • Logging contract administration/harvest inspections
    • Road contract administration
    • Silviculture planning and contract administration
    • Reforestation planning and contract administration
    • Manage non-timber income opportunities
    • Participation in industry meetings and co-ops
    • Work within the objectives of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative
    • Manage road easements, road use permits, and access records
    • Other tasks as assigned by the District and Region Managers

    Required Experience:


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry or equivalent
    • 5 years field experience in the western US.
    • Basic knowledge of land access and easements
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Strong listening capabilities with the ability to translate communications into appropriate action
    • Ability to manage multiple projects under strict time constraints
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment
    • Proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Arc GIS
    • Ability to work within a team environment
    • Ability to work alone in difficult field conditions, such as walking in steep terrain, over vegetation, and on rocks, during inclement weather (snow, rain, heat).
    • Ability to safely operate vehicles on steep and narrow mountain roads.
