POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists in accurately carrying out the daily needs of the genetic purity lab through understanding and supporting the many new tests associated with the Lab.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.
• Responsible for projecting a positive image of AgReliant Genetics.
• Prepare seed samples for genetic analysis.
• Conduct DNA extraction and PCR for specific DNA targets.
• Conduct herbicide bioassays, germination, and vigor tests.
• Formulate chemicals for the various lab tests and maintain chemical inventory.
• Analyze data from various tests and enter into databases.
• Ability to familiarize themselves with data management systems.
• Maintain a clean working environment.
• Observe safety requirements in all areas.
• Trouble shoot processes and lab equipment.
• Follow safety guidelines and promote a safe working environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• BS with experience in the field of molecular biology OR 3-5 years relevant experience conducting protein or DNA based genetic testing in seed. Knowledge of basic lab skills normally required in a molecular genetics lab.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Computer skills with knowledge of MS office and of ability to perform complex analyses in Excel.
• This position requires positive attitude towards heavy workloads under tight deadlines on a seasonal basis and ability to concurrently work on multiple tasks.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Must possess and RGT accreditation from the Society of Commercial Seed Technologists or the ability to obtain this certification in a reasonable time period.
• Ability to learn new data analysis, management, and storage platforms.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to travel up to 10 % of the time
• Must have valid driver’s license and meet MVR Requirements
