Are you someone who enjoys field work and wants to make a positive impact on local communities by contributing to seismic resiliency at Washington’s public schools? The Washington Geological Survey (WGS) is seeking a geophysicist to join a team working on our School Seismic Safety Project. The project plays an important role in assessing seismic vulnerability at public schools across the state of Washington by collecting valuable geologic/geophysical information to be used by school districts, engineers, and researchers responsible for evaluating the earthquake resiliency of school structures. The successful applicant will lead a team of scientists charged with the associated data collection for seismic site characterization using geophysical methods and techniques to accurately assess each campus. This position requires knowledge of geophysical methods such as MASW, MAM, and HVSR, experience with field instrumentation and troubleshooting, GIS, and database management. You will be expected to work independently to meet project objectives. This position requires interaction with the public and interested parties, so good communication skills are a must. The WGS is a diverse group of passionate and dedicated scientists working to collect and provide geologic information for the public. This project is a great opportunity for anyone looking to practice applied geophysics and expand their knowledge of Washington geology.
