Golf Superintendent - Assistant assists the Superintendent in the overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. Supervises personnel and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths. Being a Golf Superintendent - Assistant ensures adherence to golf course maintenance budget and capital plans. May serve in the Superintendent's capacity during absence. Additionally, Golf Superintendent - Assistant may require an associate degree. Typically reports to a golf course superintendent. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. The Golf Course Superintendent position is an integral component to the operations of the golf course. The position is a managerial role, overseeing the maintenance crew in the upkeep and care of a championship 18-hole golf course.
The Golf Course Superintendent is required to be skilled in overseeing the operation of a variety of tools and equipment, such as greens mowers, fairway mowers, tee mowers, chemical sprayers, fertilizer spreaders, topdressing machines, soil aeration devices, earth moving equipment, and other vehicles. The preferred candidate will have experience with operating irrigation systems and ensuring that these systems run at a standard to maintain high quality turfgrass on the course. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in agronomy, horticulture, or other agricultural field related to plant and soil science or turf management is preferred. Experience equivalent to three years of increasingly responsible and skilled full-time golf course maintenance work, including the care and maintenance of greens will be considered as a substitute for a degree.
