We are seeking a full-time Superintendent to join our team. The Superintendent will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance operations and management of staff assigned to carry out all cemetery maintenance duties.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the President to ensure all day-to-day operations and special projects are carried out in accordance with Pinelawn’s rules, regulations, and procedures, as well as all applicable laws
• Work closely with Senior Leadership and Human Resources to address all operational and staffing needs, employee issues, as well as any other business matters, as applicable
• Supervise, train, monitor and evaluate the performance of the Cemetery Maintenance crew, including Supervisors, Assistant Supervisors, and General Maintenance staff
• Oversee Pinelawn’s cemetery maintenance operations, coordinating the distribution of work and resources needed to complete all funeral service, landscaping, gardening, lawn upkeep, trash, snow and branch removal, and other required tasks as required
• Ensure maintenance standards are effectively sustained by overseeing and inspecting the work of the maintenance team in a consistent manner; conducting investigations, handling performance and attendance concerns, identifying training needs, and reorganizing the team, as required in other to preserve the integrity and beauty of Pinelawn’s cemetery grounds
• Ensure OSHA safety regulations are followed in all aspects of the work; instruct the staff in safe workplace practices pertaining the handling and use of tools and chemicals, exposure to bodily fluids, handling hazardous materials, etc.
• Develop project plans and budget, based on the scope of work and resource requirements, in addition to managing project costs in order to stay within established budget and project delivery timelines
• Manage the relationship with Pinelawn’s vendors and suppliers, ensuring the completion of contracted work by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables

Experience and Requirements:

• High School Diploma or its equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree is a huge plus!
• Valid New York State Driver’s License
• Must have 7 years of experience in Grounds Maintenance and Landscaping Operations, with 5 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role
• Must be familiar with the operation of heavy equipment and machinery, and any other relevant tools
• Must possess Project Management experience with proven ability to complete projects in line with scope, budget, and timeline
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, peers, employees, and the general public
• Must be able to work under all weather conditions
• Confidentiality and professionalism when engaging with peers and colleagues are an absolute must!
