Golf Superintendent - Assistant assists the Superintendent in the overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. Supervises personnel and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths. Being a Golf Superintendent - Assistant ensures adherence to golf course maintenance budget and capital plans. May serve in the Superintendent's capacity during absence. Additionally, Golf Superintendent - Assistant may require an associate degree. Typically reports to a golf course superintendent. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. What you’ll do:
THE BRASS TACKS- Assists the superintendent in planning and supervising the maintenance of golf course grounds.
- Schedules and supervises team members and the safe use of equipment.
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
- Supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of golf course infrastructure systems e.g.. drainage, pumps and irrigation.
- Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline to ensure the standards are achieved to meet the expectations of our members.
- May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
- Conducts and leads morning staff meetings.
- Operates specialty turf equipment and participates in golf course setup and maintenance.
- Organize and keep accurate records on maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, safety meetings and staff assignments.
- Takes responsibility for special projects and assignments as delegated by the golf course superintendent.
- Ability to work weekends and holidays.
- Must possess education equivalent to a certificate, 2-4 year degree in Horticulture/Turf Management/Crop Science or related field.
- Minimum five years golf course maintenance experience, preferably with Northern grasses. • Must possess or obtain WSDA pesticide license within 60 days of hire. • Strong knowledge of and experience with chemical, fertility and watering practices.
- Looking for a self-starter with ability to build positive relationships, lead and motivate those above and below them.
- Ability to schedule, participate in and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports and enjoy working in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.
- Computer literacy is required to perform functions of the job.
- Ability to recruit, hire, train and onboard new employees.
