Golf Superintendent is responsible for overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. Oversees continued development of golf course during golf season to improve playing conditions and maintenance of course during off-season. Being a Golf Superintendent manage purchasing, replenishment, and inventory of all materials, supplies, and equipment used to maintain golf course. Liaises with the Head Golf Professional on any issues related to golf course operations and maintenance. Additionally, Golf Superintendent typically requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a golf course general manager. The Golf Superintendent manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Golf Superintendent typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Patriots Point Links, located in Charleston, South Carolina, and managed by Bobby Jones Links, is hiring for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Patriots Point Links is a links-style par 72 championship course set amongst a meandering Low Country landscape with elaborate views of Charleston Harbor. The iconic par 3 17th hole is acclaimed for its island green and spectacular
    scenery.

    Responsibilities of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at Patriots Point Links include:

    • Assists in the preparation of the club’s annual agronomy budget and financial goals.
    • Holds all agronomy department associates accountable for providing top-notch golf course playing conditions.
    • Operates the agronomy department within the budgeted payroll and adjusts it as sales increase or decrease. 
    • Attends the monthly agronomy staff meeting with the golf course personnel that covers training, customer service, and progress since the prior month.
    • Directs and delegates activities to the grounds staff, Irrigation Technician, Mechanic, and any other on-course supervisory personnel.
    • Has daily communication with the Golf Course Superintendent and Head Golf Professional regarding the golf course conditions and its playability.
    • Keeps all permits and licenses pertaining to the agronomy department up to date.
    • Handles all chemicals and hazardous substances safely and according to the law.
    • Assists with the implementation of all fertilizer and pesticide programs.
    • Responsible for the operation of all maintenance equipment, along with calibration and operation of each.
    • Maintains a safe work environment for all agronomy associates, providing regular training to them in this area.
    • Assists in overseeing all capital improvements to the golf course.
    • Hires and trains all maintenance personnel.

    Qualifications


    Required Skills

    • Current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
    • Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement.
    • Ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment.
    • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and various types of pumps and pumping system.
    • Understanding of green surface moisture levels, utilizing moisture meter and applying irrigation water by hand where needed. 
    • Possession of a valid driver's license

    • Walk and stand for long periods of time, sit, bend, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear, stoop, kneel, crouch, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
    • Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly; up to 75 lbs. occasionally and to lift overhead and push/pull, move heavy objects.

    • Be exposed to outside weather conditions including temperatures over 90 and below 40 degrees.
