JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS)is seeking a Grant Writer (Technical Writer - Intermediate Professional) to play a vital role in supporting the research mission of the Energy Institute (EI) and Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI) housed within the college. The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching, planning, writing grant proposals, and tracking compelling grant opportunities that can be pursued by researchers affiliated with the two world-renowned research institutes. Additional desirable skills could include the ability to work with data in support of research proposals, coordinating meetings, and facilitating communication across project teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant writing, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to navigate state or federal research programs and regulations as well as internal university policies.
Responsibilities of this role include:
Seeking, researching, and identifying grant opportunities from local, state, and federal government agencies as well as research foundations.
Facilitating the formation of project teams to develop collaborative research proposals. Provide logistical support to such teams.
Writing and editing non-technical sections and providing support for technical sections as requested and ensuring compliance with proposal guidelines, internal processes, and policies.
Assisting Principal Investigator (PIs) with team development as well as internal and external partnerships.
Working collaboratively with strategic partners across Penn State and externally to identify content for non-technical sections (diversity and inclusion, education and outreach, management, data management plans, facilities and equipment, project evaluation, and other resources).
Developing a list of new grant prospects and preparing summary memos for each.
Collaborating closely with institute leadership, PIs, the finance department, the college's graduate office, and various sub-units to gather necessary information for budget, project cost-share contributions, and details about sub-awards.
Preparing and submitting regular reports to funding agencies, providing updates on grant activities, achievements, and outcomes.
Scheduling, coordinating, facilitating, and documenting planning meetings.
Providing updates and sending progress summaries to PIs and directors.
Communicate the proposal strategy and progress to other organizational stakeholders, obtain input, and sign off on content from other departments as needed.
Creating and maintaining a repository of grant support documents; tracking the progress of grant proposals submitted and their outcomes.

Education and Experience:
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree or higher plus one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A doctoral degree in any aspect of Energy, Environmental, and/or Earth Sciences or equivalent experience would be preferred.

Additional Information:
This is a hybrid position that combines remote and regular on-campus work. Questions related to the hybrid work arrangement should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
Minimal travel is required for this position may fluctuate based on business needs.
The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$61,800.00 - $89,600.00Salary Structure - additional information on Penn State's job and salary structure.
