    JOB TITLE: Grant Writer (Full-Time or Part-Time Available- 32 hours with benefits)

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Summary:

    We are seeking a skilled and passionate Grant Writer to join our nonprofit organization and play a pivotal role in securing funding for our mission-driven initiatives. As a Grant Writer, you will be responsible for researching, developing, and writing grant proposals to various foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Your ability to effectively convey our organization's goals, impact, and needs through compelling grant proposals will directly contribute to our ability to fund and execute projects that make a positive impact in our community. The Grant Writer will be an integral part of a successful and collaborative development and communications team that also raises funds through individual and major giving, planned giving, corporate support and events.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    A successful grant writer will:

    1. Grant Proposal Development:

    · Research potential funding opportunities from various sources, including foundations, government agencies, and corporations.

    · Develop comprehensive grant proposals that effectively communicate the organization's mission, objectives, programs, and impact.

    · Tailor proposals to meet specific requirements and priorities of different funding sources.

    2. Writing and Editing:

    · Craft clear, concise, and compelling narratives that highlight the significance and feasibility of proposed projects.

    · Write persuasive grant proposals that effectively address the funder's guidelines, objectives, and evaluation criteria.

    · Edit and proofread grant proposals for grammar, clarity, and coherence.

    3. Research and Analysis:

    · Conduct thorough research to understand the funding landscape, potential donors, and trends in nonprofit grant funding.

    · Identify funding prospects that align with the organization's mission and programs.

    · Stay up to date with industry best practices and trends in grant writing.

    4. Collaboration and Communication:

    · Collaborate with program managers, finance team, and other relevant staff to gather accurate data and information about projects, initiatives, and organizational goals.

    · Communicate with funders as needed to clarify proposal details or respond to inquiries.

    5. Grant Management and Reporting:

    · Assist in the management of grant applications, including tracking deadlines, submission requirements, and reporting obligations.

    · Collaborate with program managers to ensure accurate reporting on funded projects' progress, impact, and outcomes.

    6. Documentation and Recordkeeping:

    · Maintain organized records of all grant-related activities, including proposals, communications, and outcomes.

    · Provide regular updates to leadership on grant writing activities, successes, and challenges.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    · Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, etc.).

    · Proven experience in grant writing for nonprofit organizations, with a track record of successful grant awards.

    · Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to adapt writing style for different audiences.

    · Strong research and analytical skills to identify relevant funding opportunities and gather supporting data.

    · Knowledge of nonprofit sector trends, fundraising strategies, and grant application processes.

    · Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

    · Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent software.

    · Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.

    · Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to track numerous applications, projects and resources, as well as to meet all deadlines.

    · Ability to organize and perform work independent of direct supervision.

    · Ability to plan, delegate and assure performance accountability.

    · Competence with word processing, spreadsheet, and filesharing software.

    · Must maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license and driving record that satisfies insurability requirements.
