Function: Under the supervision of the Grants Program Manager, the Grant Writer is part of a team of professionals who together research, write and secure numerous grant proposals annually for the Community Food Bank (CFB). This position shares in the responsibility for the overall grants program, with a year-round submission schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Researches and identifies new private and public funding prospects.

Works with the Grants Program Manager, preparing and developing grant proposals and budgets in collaboration with other CFB staff to secure funding for CFB programs and operations.

Maintains current knowledge about the operations and programs of CFB, including branch locations and partner agencies.

Attends meetings and training seminars as assigned by the Grants Program Manager; maintains knowledge of best practices and technology advances for grant writing for private and public funding prospects. Attends Development Team meetings and monthly staff meetings.

Actively updates statistics to maintain accuracy and consistency in CFB reports, community needs, grant narratives and other materials as assigned.

Stays up-to-date on local and national hunger/poverty trends.

Follows-up on grants submitted; corresponds with program officers.

Maintains well-organized grant-related files on the Development server, for use by managers and development staff members.

Updates grants database and grant and report trackers as needed.

Writes post-award acknowledgment letters and maintains accurate records within the donor database.

Identifies key program personnel for reporting, and departmental staff to ensure reports are submitted as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge in working with an efficient and effective private and public funding grants program expected to raise millions of dollars annually.

Knowledge of securing new private and public funding prospects.

Skills in project management and technical writing.

Skills in basic research, data analysis and grants software databases, e.g. Raiser’s Edge.

Ability to identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities for grant proposals.

Ability to maintain knowledge of best practices and technology advances for grant writing.

Minimum Qualifications:

Four (4) years of experience in grant writing including researching, interpreting and analyzing diverse data.

Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism or a related field or relevant experience.

Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.) including proficiency in online submission protocols, production skills, budgeting and associated spreadsheets.

For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age; possess a current Arizona Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working or volunteering at a nonprofit and/or food bank.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Physical Requirements:
- Light Work ability to exert 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
