Groundskeeper cuts and maintains lawns and grass. Rakes leaves and cares for plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Being a Groundskeeper determines the appropriate plants or shrubs for walkways or garden areas. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons. Additionally, Groundskeeper is responsible for snow and dirt removal. Keeps the grounds and environment of a facility in a clean, attractive, orderly, safe, and healthy condition. Operates light trucks and assorted power equipment. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment. May require horticultural training. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Groundskeeper works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Mows lawns, trims weeds, pick up and remove trash, empty trash cans, water lawn and shrubs, care for trees & shrubs, apply fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides as directed. Be able to repair equipment and hand tools required for grounds keeping. Be able to perform maintenance tasks, fixing carts, change light bulbs, repair walls and paint. Have ability to learn more involved repairs on equipment. Help out custodial crew if needed.
Skills/Experience Required or Preferred
Ability to operate & repair power equipment for grounds keeping. Follow instructions and have excellent time management. Extensive knowledge of landscaping techniques and processes. Herbicide/Pesticide license preferred. Prior experience in grounds keeping required.
Education
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Must submit to and pass drug/alcohol screening test
Must submit to and pass an Oregon State background investigation
Certificates/Licenses
Oregon drivers license - Must be 21 years of age or older
