GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION :

Maintain the landscape to provide an aesthetically pleasing outdoor space emphasizing safety and sustainability and providing a positive learning environment.

This position receives general direction from the Grounds Manager and exercises no supervision.

NOTE : This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA :

Knowledge of : 1. Grounds and maintenance practices and procedures. 2. Vehicle maintenance and repairs. 3. Landscape machinery safety practices.

Skills in : 4. Commercial mowing and trimming. 5. Tree trimming. 6. Irrigation maintenance and repair. 7. Flower bed design, implementation, and upkeep.

8. Landscaping / grounds equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to : 9. Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.

10. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. 11. Safely operate commercial mowers, blowers, trimmers, tractors, forklift, street sweepers, rototillers, lifts, and saws.

WORKING CONDITIONS :

Exertive-Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward positions and sustained activities require strength. Frequent moderate lifting is required.

Continual Exposure for Recurring Risk-At least half of each week requires exposure to sensory extremes. Several times weekly there may be exposure to chance of injury or loss of life, requiring additional safety precautions.

QUALIFICATIONS :

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :

Education : High School Diploma or GED

Experience : Some work experience in landscaping or related field.

Special Requirement : Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Must be insurable and maintain insurability under the College's automobile insurance policy.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

Experience : Preference may be given to those who possess licenses or certifications in landscaping, irrigation, pesticide, or other related area.
