Reports to Athletic Director/Assistant Athletic Director
Job Purpose: To provide optimum health services by facilitation of injury prevention, rehabilitation, immediate emergency first aid, and communication of sound health information.
Qualifications-Required
Bachelor’s degree, NATA (National Athletic Trainer’s Association) certificate and NJ Department of Education Athletic Trainer endorsement
NATABOC Certification, NJ Department of Education Athletic Trainer endorsement, NJ State board of medical examiners license or license eligible
Basic computer skills
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent communication skills: written and oral
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
Ability to work with little to no supervision
Ability to use good common sense and sound judgment
Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines
Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families/parents
Possess knowledge about a large range of medical problems, assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals
Demonstrated ability to work well as a team member
Able to pass the Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Review
Ability to pass the Pre-Employment Physical
Able to pass the required Criminal History Review
Duties/Responsibilities
Work closely with the Athletic Director, the team physician, the School Nurses Office, and the high school and middle school building administration, in the conduct of the athletic training program.
Coordinate conditioning and training procedures with the head coach of each sport, operating in the best interest of the student athletes and the team, and approve all protective equipment purchases of sports related goods.
Provide for the immediate care of all injuries occurring as a result of participation with interscholastic athletic teams during assigned coverage.
Provide subsequent follow-up care as instructed by the team physician(s).
Report all athletic related injuries, maintain adequate records of injuries and treatment and provide monthly statistical reports to the Director of Athletics.
Provide advice regarding athletic training diets for teams when requested
Assist with requisitioning necessary training equipment and supplies required for the efficient management of the athletic training program.
Be involved with arranging required physical examination of student athletes in appropriate sports.
Assist with recruitment, training, assigning and supervision of all activities of student trainers.
Assist with training of teachers, coaches and paraprofessionals in health-related issues.
Make available medical kits for each in-season team and supply and re-supply items contained in the kit.
Apply protective or injury-preventive devices, such as strapping, bandaging, or braces, per the school physician’s directives.
Perform baseline and post-concussion testing using both ImPact and SCAT5 to assess concussion and establish follow up protocols and Return to play protocol per Schools Concussion policy
Establish a working relationship with school physician, attending orthopedic physician, and community physicians
Establish working relationship with high school and middle school nursing staff
Perform other duties which may be within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.
