    The Lifeguard is responsible for protecting and caring for all members and guests using the aquatics facilities while maintaining a safe club environment and providing excellent customer service. The Lifeguard must exhibit the highest level of professionalism and maintain a positive attitude, always upholding the Club’s core values: Integrity, Caring, Creativity, Passion, and Excellence.

    Personal Responsibilities

    • Arrive to work on time and work scheduled hours
    • Record hours worked, through the club payroll system
    • Wear proper uniform

    Lifeguard Duties and Responsibility

    • Ensure the safety of pool patrons
    • Lifeguard must provide surveillance of swimmers (maintain 10/20)
    • Lifeguards must exhibit attentiveness of their zone of protection
    • Lifeguard must always be Rescue Ready while clocked
    • Address environmental concerns such as hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, shirt, umbrella
    • Perform bottom scan at the beginning and end of each rotation
    • Prevent accidents and incidents before they occur
    • Be aware of and report safety hazards on deck and in the pool
    • Enforce Club rules & policies for pool and spa use
    • Alert members when a lifeguard is going off duty as well as when the diving board is closed
    • Perform First Aid & CPR as necessary in an emergency
    • Complete and turn in appropriate forms in the event of an accident
    • Pick up towels, pool equipment and straighten up the deck when necessary
    • Set up and put away lifeguard equipment
    • Announce “No Lifeguard on Duty” at closing, before the last guard leaving the deck
    • Refill emergency pack when needed

    Required Certifications & Attendance*
    *

    • Maintain current American Red Cross certification in adult/child/infant CPR/AED, including an annual refresher course
    • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
    • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification
    • Current American Red Cross certification for pool lifeguard, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, and First Aid
    • Must have 4 hours of in-service training per month if working 20 hours per week or 1 hour per month if less than 20 hours per week
    • Attend All-Call meetings, Department Head meetings, and one-on-one meetings

    As a non-exempt employee, the Lifeguard shall not exceed 40 hours per week without prior written permission from the General Manager.
