Head Cataloging Librarian develops cataloging policies and procedures and implements improvement. Manages staff and student assistants in all formats cataloging following updated workflows. Being a Head Cataloging Librarian creates metadata schema to ensure efficient workflow for metadata projects. Typically requires a master's degree. Additionally, Head Cataloging Librarian typically reports to top management. The Head Cataloging Librarian manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Cataloging Librarian typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Benchmark School is seeking applicants for a full-time librarian who will promote a life-long love of reading and take a leadership role in the instruction of 21st-century information technology skills. Collaboration with faculty is a significant aspect of the librarian's responsibilities; candidates would support the students and faculty in implementing inquiry and research projects. The librarian would be responsible for curating and expanding Benchmark's extensive collection of leveled books, particularly seeking books representing a diverse, inclusive worldview. Creative activities would be expected to familiarize students and faculty with the collection and promote a daily reading habit.

    Responsibilities

    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work effectively with colleagues and parents
    • Ability to interact with Lower and Middle School students
    • Understanding of students who have experienced reading or learning differences
    • Knowledge of a range of technology tools
    • Possess an attention to detail that will facilitate the smooth running of the school's library management system.

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Studies, or a related field from an ALA-accredited institution preferred
    • Minimum two years of library experience in a school setting
    • Strong technology skills
