    SUPERVISOR: School Principal

    SALARY RANGE: In accordance with RCBOE Salary Schedules
    Teaching contract and supplement

    SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
    Under general supervision manages and administers a well-balanced athletic program for all interested students in the senior high school. This position requires working with assistant coaches, sponsors, student managers and the athletic director in the delivery of services for an effective program including selection and care of equipment, site preparation, practice organization and participant safety. To administer a well organized program that maximizes the strengths of each player, and places the players in situations, which will enhance their chances for success.

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Asterisk for essential job duties)
    1. Serves as head football coach and supervises assistant coaches. (*)
    2. Assumes responsibility for the junior varsity football program and its coaching staff. (*)
    3. Cooperates with the principal in the selection, assigning, and evaluation of the football coaching staff. (*)
    4. Fosters good school-community relations with parents, alumni, and fans by keeping the community aware of the progress of the football program.
    5. Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of practices, physicals, insurance, eligibility, and meeting all guidelines as prescribed by the Georgia High School Association and the Richmond County Board of Education.
    6. Expresses and exemplifies good sportsmanship and fair play, and instills these values in the players.
    7. Provides a disciplined and work-oriented environment for assistant coaches and student athletes.
    8. Cooperates with the administration in the enforcement of rules and regulations.
    9. Upholds the authority of officials who are assigned to the contests, and assists them in every way to conduct fair and impartial competitive contests.
    10. Assumes responsibility for assisting college coaches, athletes and parents who warrant the need for helping a student athlete advance to the next level of play.
    11. Maintain academic progress reports on all athletes and work with coaching staff in setting up tutorial and study hall sessions for athletes who are in need of these services.
    12. Always maintain a professional attitude with Administrators, staff, parents and students.
    13. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee’s supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.

    KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:
    A thorough knowledge of the RCSS policies and procedures dealing with student athletics and thorough knowledge of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The ability to organize and manage a comprehensive athletic program. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. Demonstrates a sound knowledge of football skills, strategy and rules of the game.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and preferably 5 years of coaching experience. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Such alternatives to the above as the Principal may find appropriate.

    CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
    Valid Teacher Certificate for the state of Georgia

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
    Physical requirements that accompany the position of a football coach.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Conduct spring football practices
