Assists players in reaching highest athletic potential possible through athletic training and leadership skills. Additionally, Head Coach (Major Sport) must be familiar with NCAA rules and regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree in the related area. Typically reports to a institutional officer. Head Coach (Major Sport) is a specialist on complex technical and business matters. Work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group.     Head Volleyball Coach

    Tribal School

    Department of Human Services

    Contracted: $3,500.00/Temporary/Part-Time


    The Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation for the sport.


    Examples of Work Performed:

    Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.

    Assesses player's skills and assigns team positions accordingly.

    Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide for both individual and team development.

    Works with Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.

    Assigns duties to the Assistant Coach as necessary.

    Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and technique of the sport.

    Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.

    Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.

    Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.

    Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.

    Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.

    Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their students,

    Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.

    Models sport-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials and spectators.

    Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.

    Participates in special activities to include: parent's night, banquets and pep assemblies.

    Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related records.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies and technique of the sport.

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, with school administrators, parents, and students.

    Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

    Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

    Ability to bend, stoop, and sit on the floor.

    Ability to work under direct supervision using standardized routines.


    General Recruiting Indicators:

    At least 6 months prior experience as a Coach or an Assistant Coach at the High School/Middle School level. Or any combination of experience working with youth or knowledge that provides the ability to perform the responsibilities of this position.


    Special Requirements:

    Must have and maintain First Aid/CPR Certification.

    Must possess a valid Washington State Driver License with ability to obtain a Tribal Driving permit.

    Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

    Must pass a pre-employment background check.

    Yakama enrolled preference.
