Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Work at the reception desk, greet and communicate with patients and providers.
2. Scheduling, canceling, & rescheduling patient appointments.
3. Check in patients & properly document registration information, including insurance verification.
4. Ensure all electronic patient paperwork is complete, including all required signatures.
5. Print encounter forms required for the patient appointment, when needed.
6. Inform patients if the physicians are running behind.
7. Collect co-pays and other payments from patients as required.
8. Explain financial and collection policies to new patients & provide the written policy to each patient.
9. Check out patients & schedule any return appointments.
10. Enter office charges and payments into practice management system.
11. Run daily schedules as needed.
12. Screen visitors and respond to routine requests for information.
13. Keep the reception area neat and clean.
14. Maintain patient confidentiality; comply with HIPAA & compliance guidelines established by the practice.
15. Attend all staff meetings, as well as Business Office huddles.
16. Provide coverage as needed for other Business Office staff.
17. Observe policies and procedures.
18. Provide Friday afternoon coverage as scheduled.
19. Promote a positive public image.
20. Assist in other departments as directed.
21. Other duties as assigned
