Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Obstetrics typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Staff Nurse will be responsible for:
    • Triaging calls and patient gateway messages of Obstetric patients-must be able to work autonomously
    • Working collaboratively with attending physicians, residents, fellows, physician assistants, social work, medical and practice assistants to meet needs of our obstetric patients
    • Administration of IM, SC and PO medications as ordered and per protocol
    • Interpretation and follow-up routine prenatal labs and genetic testing per protocol
    • Performing new patient intakes (obtain detailed medical/surgical and obstetric history with clear and precise documentation)
    • Educating patients
    • Remaining flexible in meeting changing needs of clinic assignment and workflows
    • Must be a team player, multi-tasker, hardworking, reliable, trustworthy, empathetic, have a sense of humor and embrace diversity
    • Working collaboratively to provide excellent care to patients and families in the safest environment.

    To qualify you must have:
    Education:
    • Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts. A Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is required for external candidates and newly licensed nurses.
    Experience:
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as an RN is required
    • A minimum of one year experience in an outpatient clinic setting is preferred
    • Experience in ambulatory obstetric practice preferred
    • Experience in telephone triage is preferred
    • Experience in obstetrics is required, and experience in gynecology is preferred
    • Proficiency in Ambulatory Epic Record is preferred
    • Bilingual preferred
    Other:
    • Membership in professional organizations is recommended and certification in a specialty area is preferred.
    • Able to work weekend rotation per the MNA contract.
