Head Nurse - Oncology directs nursing service activities for assigned oncology patients. Delegates responsibilities to oncology staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of oncology patient clinical records, and writes reports on oncology staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Oncology maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Oncology requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Oncology manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Oncology typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Responsibilities

    Position: Registered Nurse ( Dodge City)

    Location: Wichita, KS

    Shift: M-F, 8:00- 5pm

    SCOPE:

    The Staff Nurse provides compassionate, patient-centered support throughout the treatment process, facilitating patient education and access to a variety of community resources. They must demonstrate excellent communication skills and a detailed knowledge of oncology diagnoses, treatments, and symptom management.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Provides direct nursing care for patients, including appropriate supportive care, mixing and administration of chemotherapy, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and other oncology treatments as prescribed.
    • Performs nursing assessments and triage of patient care needs for new and ongoing patients.
    • Screens lab and other test results daily for critical values. Initiates appropriate action following standing orders.
    • Provides education to patients, families, and significant others; acts as an information resource to students, health care professionals, patients, and the public.
    • Provides family support as required, including applicable referrals and bereavement counseling.
    • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
    • May train and guide other nursing and support staff engaged in clinical activities; may participate in research and related activities.
    • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned in accordance with OSHA guidelines.

    ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • At least one year of previous experience in a medical setting is preferred.
    • Experience with venipuncture technique and IV administration preferred.
    • Experience in oncology or hematology is preferred.
    • Familiarity with or ability to learn IKnowMed G2 and Lynx required.

    Basic Work Requirements:

    • Ability to perform basic computer functions and is familiar with Microsoft Office and Outlook.
    • Ability to enter data into various electronic systems while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data.
    • Ability to type a minimum of 40 wpm is preferred.
    • Ability to operate a multiline phone system and utilize appropriate phone etiquette.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with ICD10 codes is preferred.
    • Possesses strong customer service skills and professionalism.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
    • Minimum one year experience in a medical office environment is preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

    • Degree (Bachelors or Associates) in Nursing required.
    • Current Nursing License in the State of Kansas required.
    • Chemo certification required (may be obtained during orientation).
    • Current CPR Certification required (may be obtained during orientation.
    • Minimum of 15 contact hours per year of Continuing Education required annually.
    • OCN certification encouraged.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • None.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
