Head Nurse - Oncology directs nursing service activities for assigned oncology patients. Delegates responsibilities to oncology staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of oncology patient clinical records, and writes reports on oncology staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Oncology maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Oncology requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Oncology manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Oncology typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Your Role:

    The Oncology RN is a multi-faceted position responsible for supporting physicians and APPs in the overall care of Oncology and Hematology patients. Responsibilities include working as a team with RNs, MAs, and providers to perform clinical duties, schedule appointments, triage, and coordinate patient care within the specialty department, community, and across the healthcare system.

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

      1. Education: Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
      2. License/Certifications: Active State of Maine Nursing License or eligible for licensure. Current BLS required. Obtains ONS certification card within one year of hire. Maintains active ONS certification once obtained.
      3. Experience: Minimum one-year’s nursing experience required.
      4. Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources.
      5. Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
      6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors, and other staff.
      7. Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing and medical care coordination.
      8. Ability to read and interpret physicians’ orders and notes from other providers.
      9. Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages, injections, and measure results.
      10. Ability to organize and accomplish multiple tasks and to have the flexibility to meet changing demands daily.
      11. Ability to maintain a professional manner even under stressful situations.
      12. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
      13. Proficient computer skills.
      14. Adhere to all RN requirements.
