Head of Housekeeping directs and coordinates the daily operations of a housekeeping services department to ensure offices, patient/guest rooms, and other specified areas are kept in a clean and orderly condition. Conducts inspections of facilities and recommends repairs and upgrades when needed. Being a Head of Housekeeping ensures compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. May create quality standards and monitors the implementation. Additionally, Head of Housekeeping may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to top management. The Head of Housekeeping typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be a Head of Housekeeping typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. The Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a 460 bed facility providing services for short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, home care programs, an adult day health program, ventilator dependent care, palliative and hospice care, a new Memory Care Unit and on-site dialysis. The Gurwin Family of Services also includes the 201-apartment Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner assisted living community, and the proposed Fountaingate Gardens independent living community, to be built on the Commack campus.
Our innovative facility and growing services offer opportunities to advance your career. We are currently seeking a full-time Housekeeper for our day shift (9am –5pm) with every other weekend who will embody the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Duties include keeping assigned areas clean, sanitary and aseptic by scouring, scrubbing, mopping, polishing, using germicides, including wet and dry dusting.
- Candidate must have the ability to use equipment and keep it neat and clean according to department requirements.
Requirements include:
- Experience in floor care, including stripping, waxing and buffing in a hospital or nursing home preferred.
- Candidates with experience in a hospital or nursing home preferred.
- Knowledge of the dementia population and dealing with related behaviors.
- Understands written and oral instruction.
- Understands and absorbs new work methods.
- Capable of completing schedules effectively.
- Capable of standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.
