Health and Safety Administrator is responsible for identifying hazardous workplace conditions. Takes samples and measurements of hazardous materials, and coordinates the removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Administrator trains employees on safety, company policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to employee safety. Ensures compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations and ensures necessary records are maintained and prepared according to established guidelines. Additionally, Health and Safety Administrator participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a supervisor. To be a Health and Safety Administrator typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.     The Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a motivated student to work as a safety and health assistant. Responsibilities will include coordinating the chemical safety data sheet (SDS) inventory and updating and maintaining this database, periodic calibration of oxygen monitoring systems, and checking AEDs, crane-use logs, and other equipment under the purview of the Safety office. Additional responsibilities will include performing sampling for chemical and physical hazards, writing reports, logging in and tracking hazardous waste, and assisting with maintaining the Emergency Response program, drills, and personnel training. Work may also include providing health and safety training for employees. The selected candidate will also serve in a reserve role for emergency response, during and after regular work hours.

    Employment planned to begin as soon as feasible. 

    Required Qualifications: 

    • Must be a student currently enrolled in the USU Industrial Hygiene program
    • Must be able to commit to 40 hours a week during the summer and remain working for 20 hours a week during the school year between 8 to 5 pm on weekdays
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Must be willing to build positive relationships throughout the organization to enhance the safety and health culture
    • Must be observant and willing to correct unsafe behavior
    • Strong computer skills and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person

    Preferred Qualifications: 
    • HAZWOPER certification is a plus
