Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Your Specific Responsibilities:

    The incumbent of this position will facilitate evidence-based sexual risk avoidance (SRA) curricula and promote activities targeting middle and high school youth, their parents, guardians, and significant adults. The incumbent will also plan, facilitate, and participate in community events, adult classes, and presentations promoting the abstinence message. The incumbent will facilitate health education classes in the schools, and community organizations. This position is a full time, year-round staff member and requires some evening and weekend activities. The incumbent will come to work and exhibit an attitude of friendliness and eager customer service towards all clients and act respectfully and courteously to fellow employees and clients.


    Sexual Risk Avoidance and other Health Education and Promoting Activities

    Independently facilitates evidence-based SRA curricula and promoting activities to youth, parents, and guardians in community settings in accordance with the project work plan or as designated by the project coordinator.


    Identifies, recruits, and provides ongoing training and activities utilizing project peer leaders to promote the abstinence message in school and community settings.


    Plans, develops, and facilitates program events, significant adult classes, and activities. Teaches health education classes in accordance with the approved grant guidelines at the direction of the Supervisor.


    Participates in staff conferences.


    Develops and maintains working relationships with community partners, community organizations, and governmental agencies to promote the abstinence and other health messages to the community.


    Administrative

    Participates in project evaluation and staff development activities. Evaluates and analyzes project activities, recommending changes as needed. Participates in quality improvement activities.

    Completes and provides activity report forms, sign-in sheets, and evaluations at the completion of each activity. Enters classroom and community data into Health Management System accurately and in a timely manner.

    • Other job-related requirements for this position:
      • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
      • This position requires travel and a personal vehicle.

    Jefferson County Health Department is the base for this program, but candidate's office will be in Madison. Work will be in both Jefferson and Madison Counties.
