The Director, Underwriting is responsible for managing a group of underwriters overseeing activities related to New Business and/or client Renewals for a given state(s), a subset of a state(s) or a given line of business. How You Will Make an Impact Primary duties may include, but are not limited to: Ensure end to end execution of rating targets and key performance indicators for assigned team, state(s) and/or line of business. Monitor emerging results and competitive tactics to ensure enterprise objectives are achieved. Works with peers across states and regions to ensure consistent NB and Renewal processes and best practices. Coordinates with the Segment team, Local Sales teams, Finance/Actuarial, State Plan Presidents, and Regional Presidents. Participates in strategic planning and management decisions. Manages daily workflow within a unit and ensures timely release of work. Manages a larger group of professional underwriters. Develops and manages their team's budget. Hires, trains, coaches, counsels, and evaluates performance of direct reports. Minimum Requirements: Requires a BA/BS in a related field; 9 years of related experience including prior management experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences: Underwriting experience and knowledge of Dental, Vision and Supplemental Health group benefit plans. Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate/coach other staff preferred. Excellent written, oral presentation and interpersonal communication skills with the proven ability to negotiate expectations between multiple parties.
